MEC642 — Lubrication of Machine Elements

Understanding Tribology. Investigating Lubrication. Advancing Engineering Solutions.

MEC642 explores the principles and applications of lubrication in machine elements through five integrated modules: Tribology & Lubricated Machine Elements; Lubrication Regime and Lubrication Theory; Lubricant Formulation and Lubricant Selection; Lubricant Testing and Analysis; and Lubrication Advancement and Technology.

The course connects fundamental engineering knowledge with practical applications, from understanding friction, wear, and lubrication mechanisms to analysing journal bearings, selecting suitable lubricants, investigating lubricant performance, and exploring emerging technologies such as ultrasound techniques, advanced additives, and bio-lubricants.

Through analytical problem-solving, experimental investigation, directed self-learning, and project-based activities, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, interpret engineering evidence, and pursue independent, lifelong learning.

Guided by continuous quality improvement, these teaching modules are developed to bridge theory and practice, strengthen engineering competencies, and prepare students to address complex lubrication challenges with knowledge, responsibility, and adaptability.

Rooted in Taqwa. Growing in Knowledge. Serving with Humility.
